Highly recommend! Clean, quiet and very comfortable rooms. Karen and Alison have thought of everything to make your stay in Penrith beautiful and relaxing. They are warm and welcoming hosts. All the small thoughtful touches make it an understated luxurious place to stay. Freshly cooked delicious breakfast and fresh coffee in the morning. Couldn't fault anything!
Stayed with my husband on Easter Sunday 2025. I can honestly say that this is the best guesthouse I have ever stayed in and Karen, Alison (& Bunty) are such warm hosts who obviously work extremely hard and love what they do. We only stayed for one night but the love, care and attention that so obviously went into our stay from the moment we booked to the moment we left was evident and so appreciated. We were lucky enough to stay in Room 4 and it was bright, homely and welcoming and so beautifully pristine and clean, almost like we were the first couple to stay! The attention to detail and little homebaked treats were a lovely surprise. If you are in the area and are looking for somewhere to stay then you will really miss out if you don’t book!! Thank you Karen and Alison; you made our stay memorable and we hope to see you in the future
To call this guest house faultless would be to do a disservice to the owners. I cannot speak highly enough of our stay. The host was so friendly, and the room was immaculate. The price was very affordable and the location perfect, having several castles and places of interest nearby. Ullswater Lake within a 20 minute drive, and located right in the middle of town, with secure, private parking. The owner shared some local tips for some great places to eat and drink. The attention to detail and service level were absolutely second to none. Including complimentary home made treats in the room, which was a lovely touch (and delicious). A wonderful cooked breakfast in the morning, with our choice of exactly what we wanted. The vast breakfast menu considered all allergy and dietary requirements. This is without question, the best night's stay we have had in the country. Blue Swallow Guest House has set the bar for what all other bed and breakfasts should aspire to be like. Thank you, and we will absolutely see you again when we next travel to Cumbria.
Lovely guesthouse/BnB at the bottom of the high street in Penrith. Karen and Alison are wonderful hosts, making sure all is to your liking and providing little homemade treats too. A good selection of options to choose from for breakfast each morning, which is served promptly and freshly made.
The Blue Swallow Guesthouse is pristine! Alison and Karen are such considerate hosts and truly know what they’re doing. The rooms were immaculate, the breakfast was delicious and the extra attention they give each guest was beyond what we could’ve hoped for. They offered to store our bikes and bags as we arrived a bit early and made it super easy to come and go. The location is close to both the station and town center, so catching a bus to other locations was very easy. I have no doubt I’ll be back to stay when I’m back in the Lake District.
What a lovely stay! This place is worth every penny. Alison and Karen are kind and caring. Stating that the rooms are spotless would be an understatement. The beddings are so comfy and the food is fresh and delicious.
A delightful B&B hosted by two lovely people. Some friends and I decided to do the coast to coast bike ride this weekend and we had the pleasure of spending our first night post first day in the saddle at the blue swallow. Karen and Alison could not have been more hospitable, we even got various sweet tears for our journey ahead in day two. The rooms were clean, spick and span tidy and breakfast was punctured with some lovely anecdotes from Karen. Do yourself a favour and stay here for as long as you need.
Read a lot of reviews about the Blue Swallow and believe me they are correct.. Karen and Alison were fantastic hosts ,lovely room,superb breakfast but most of all were so welcoming...they made 2 useless Geordie fishermen feel completely at home. Thank you ladies...we will fill your freezer next time xx Davy and Paul xx
